Jason’s grandma is getting vaccinated this Friday and hopefully this means that there is light at the end of this massive tunnel. We don’t know how you feel but this week there was a millisecond where the birds were chirping, the sun had actually WARMED our van, and the dogs had found puke from LAST YEAR beneath the melted snow and we thought, “maybe, just maybe, we are nearing the other side of this.”
But, as Jason is prone to remind us, the gods have a wicked sense of humour. Their design is not simply found in the genuine beauty of the world but also in its deep irony. “Do not tempt the gods by telling them your plans,” he is prone to say. “They know your plans. You anger the gods by stating your plans aloud.”
Fortunately, through some nuanced, discrete natural law this does not apply to writing, so we are free to express our hope tenderly in this New Arrivals email. Our dream is that writing somehow fell through the cracks of poetic justice by way of a heavenly appreciation of Art but this may not be so. But we will accept any poetry along the backroads of life, such as it may be; false, shadowy, or otherwise.
Speaking of which, there are some delightful titles, both bright and shadowy, in this batch of arrivals. Great works and guilty pleasures galore. We’ve been working through an excellent small press collection and you’ll see a few more examples. More to come too as the grass thaws.
Also, our shop is open again! We are back to our regular hours of 12-5 Monday through Saturday. This means you can actually WALK INTO THE SHOP to pick up online orders. Or better yet, you can STROLL THE AISLES (BOTH OF THEM!) to see the lovely things on shelves. An empty bookshop is a broken heart. We are eager to fall in love again. So do pop down and say hello.
As always,
our best to you,
Jason and Vanessa
