Make It Happen: An Immersive Writing Seminar

Join Vanessa on Wednesday evenings to workshop your manuscript and get it ready for publication. Fiction and non-fiction projects are welcome.

Classes will be held every two weeks from 7 - 9 pm over a total of 8 sessions and include homework assignments and peer review to further your skills as a writer. In between classes, there will be online communication available between classmates, and with the instructor. Topics include: 

  • Forms of Narrative Structure
  • Characterization Tips & Tricks
  • Grammar and Style
  • Peer and Mentor Coaching
  • The World of Publishing and Beyond
  • Research Organization and Sources
  • Genre - Choosing What Works for You

Bi-weekly, starting June 22nd from 7 - 9 pm.

Class is limited to 10 slots. Members receive 20% off. 

Remote learning is an option. 

Pro-rated refunds will be offered if you need to drop the class or are unhappy with the instruction.

A freelance writer, editor and local historian, Vanessa Brown is the author of The Grand Old Lady: A History of Hotel London and (written with Jason) London: 150 Cultural Moments which was published by Biblioasis in 2017 and won the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario's Heritage Award. Her latest book, The Forest City Killer, was published by ECW Press in 2019 and was featured in the New York Times, Quill & Quire, as well as podcasts such as My Favorite Murder and Murder Squad. Forest City Killer was a finalist for the Arthur Ellis Award in the True Crime category and won a Gold Medal at the International Independent Publisher Awards.  She has taught various writing courses for journalism, essay writing, and creative work.
