This Will End

It’s time for some positive thinking. As you read this, take a second. If you didn’t have a second, you wouldn’t be reading this email. You’d be doing something else. You’d be sweeping up those spilled pencil shavings or washing the dishes or attending that meeting you got out of by pretending your internet went down and you couldn’t get your hot spot to work. So, we can agree. You’ve got a second.

Relax your shoulders. Relax your eyebrows. Relax your jaw. I’m gonna tell you something that could really be the magic ticket and you’d better be ready to fully absorb every word of it. It’s just three words, and it’s gonna be your mantra for the rest of the day.

This will end.

There will once again be summer barbecues. You’ll be able to invite your neighbour in just for a second to borrow that thing you have and they don’t have, without hesitation. Sitting cross legged on the grass, you’ll be able to listen to an outdoor concert and accept a joint from a stranger and not have to worry about dying because of that small moment of communal joy.

This will end.

It’s hard to remember, in the dark winter months. Last winter was bleak. We were waiting for vaccines, drinking two boxes of cheap wine a week, and watching the blessedly awful Game of Thrones. The world as we knew it hung in the balance. We read Station Eleven and watched Contagion and cried into our pillows. But I’m here to tell you, this winter is not like the last one.

This will end.

Clean the corners. Plan your garden. Get back on that walking route and starting eating some vegetables. Remember that life is still happening! And life will continue! Listen to your eleven-year-old’s Spotify playlist of eighties pop songs and bounce around the kitchen. Plan your book. Write songs. Build forts. Get ready.

This will end.

Much love,
Jason and Vanessa
