After dedicated consultation with our community of bookshop colleagues, member keeners, animals-in-vests river friends, rando neighouborhood weirdos, puppers, and The Queen, we’re now ready to introduce our new Montly Memberships!
We’ve stayed up late into the night designing these exceptional memberships, learning A LOT about the nocturnal life of our neighbourhood.
Did you know that a raccoon named Jasper plays the kazzoo in Victoria Park at 3am? It’s mainly sailor songs, as she spent a long life at sea in a rum barrel boat, but she is SO SWEET that we got swept up in her strange and nautical tales of love with fish.
Did you know that the garbage people who work the strip when we all sleep are the KINDEST WEREWOLVES we’ve ever met. They keep this street safe AND clean. We were terrified of them at first, as they are LARGE and HAIRY. But they stopped in front of the store, gave us a seductive wink, and shouted, “Be not afraid mortal, we no longer fear the moon. Walk ALONGSIDE it’s nebulous rays and embrace the change it brings.”
Wise words indeed.
Did you know that in the old Prince Albert’s Diner space a group of INVISIBLE MAGICIANS have gathered since 1852. NO ONE KNEW THEY WERE THERE! We heard them last Thursday while deciding whether a $25 membership tier should offer free shipping in Ontario. Their chants were not of this world, yet strangely–you could say prophetically–EDMlike. Like, full tilt EDM. They dance. They sweat. WE danced with them. Now we’re part of their cabal and can become invisible when needed.
Sadly this power is NOT included in the many membership benefits offered by our monthly bookshop membership. The best we can do is amazing merch–some of it strange–made by local geniuses. Please do take a look and sign up if you can. There are some incredible things coming. If enough people join we WILL promise to have a members event where Jasper, the sad but sweet sailor raccoon of Victoria Park and our hearts will play a members only event by the lunar light, kind werewolves and wizards attending too.
