We woke up this morning in a state because, as it happens every year around this time, we remembered that Christmas is coming and that we needed to get on that. It’s not that we forget Christmas is coming. We like Christmas. We are just sometimes chained to the retail present, sweeping the leaves and garbage CURRENTLY on our sidewalk instead of peering into the future imagining the sidewalks of tomorrow. Maybe you are like some of our friends who buy gifts today meant for Christmases five years in the future. If you’re more like us you remember one cold, dark November morning that IT IS COMING and that you’d better do something now or you and your loved ones will be heartbroken. Fortunately, we have you covered.
Isaac Asimov completist? Covered. Peter Rabbit completist? Covered. Ephemeral promotional material for David Lynch’s Dune film completist? Covered. We have Children’s Literature box sets, a Gertrude Stein biography, loads of books on Jack the Ripper, and a field guide to North American rocks and minerals–you know, Christmas gifts–as well as all sorts of titles meant to be consumed my the smarties in your bio or chosen family. IT’S BEEN A YEAR. Maybe everyone needs a little beautifully unexpected gift, ironically personalized that says, “Hey, I see you. I love you as much as you love North American rocks and minerals.”
All in all we are pleased that you’re a member. We thank you again for staying on our bizarre pirate ship as it sails through the stormy sea of contemporary arts and culture retail. We love our little city. We love it’s readers. We appreciate the chance to do this every day. We hope that somehow these weekly lists have offered SOMETHING of a pointed reprieve from the Hurly Burly of contemporary life. Big things are on the horizon for our little bookshop, and if you stick with us we promise something equally bizarre, beautiful, and literary for you indoor kids to love.
Much love,
Jason and Vanessa
