After two weeks of moving boxes and late night scheming, we are pleased to begin our weekly new arrivals emails again. It’s been an eventful couple time, fulfilling orders and answering the question, “What box did we put that book in exactly?” but we think we mainly succeeded. The new space is shaping up well and should be ready for a great unveiling very soon. Every plug works in our second location, so that’s a step in the right direction. There are a few proper right angles here as well (unlike our old space) although one of our rare book bookcases did find a wobbly floor and is leaning against the wall like an exhausted mother. We will have to get that fixed, or just lie exhausted with it in allyship.
Last week a Toronto book dealer came to the store and traded ten boxes of books with us. We’ve been cataloguing them over the past couple of days. It is weird, but a whole different list of authors was in those boxes that do not normally appear in London, Ontario. It’s funny how each city has its own identity when it comes to used books. We never see these books in town! Perhaps Toronto is just nerdier, although we do not believe that. There’s a quiet nerdiness to London we feel is very unique. We will not accept argument against it.
Not as many books are on our members list this week as we’ve been loading and unloading until we die. However, we did want to get SOMETHING out to you as we love you and honestly writing these emails is a highlight of our week. Perhaps, too, we are clinging to the few stops of normalcy we can find. Our members new arrivals list — just the meditative process of creating it — calms our middle aged nerves like a dove call from a downtown telephone pole.
Welcome back friends. Thank you for renewing your memberships. There’s some good stuff here: American poetry, counterculture, books on books, lesbian vampire fiction, and more. Everything a sweet indoor kid needs to feel happy.
Much love,
Jason and Vanessa

Our bookmobile-in-progress sits quietly in the Ontario winter hellscape.
