Dear friends,
We are pleased to announce a new bookmobile stop this week. Our blue bus will be parked on the esteemed campus of Huron University up at Western today from 1-4pm. We’ve been interested in driving up to the campus for some time now and we’re excited to see how the students and professors react to our strange and lovely book bus. Our hope is that they go nuts and buy like hungry intellectuals craving brain food. We’ve stocked the bus with some great new arrivals so it should be an excellent day.
Saturday is a full day too. In the morning we will be at the inimitable Variety Cafe in Woodfield. Later that day we are at the Forest City Gallery’s 50th Anniversary party! Both of us have been involved with the gallery for some time now and being a part of this party is a big deal for us. Not that we’re like SPECIAL GUESTS or anything but just like HANGING AROUND that kind of awesomeness is always worthwhile. Jason was on the Board when the move was made to the previous Richmond Street address, and he was vice-chair for a period there as well. He was also the Literary Co-ordinator a LONG time ago when he was young and fraught with ambition.
Now they’re are at a great new location on Elias Street right by our favourite Odyssey Records and are still doing amazing stuff. Just this past Thursday we were at the New Regionalisms Creative Research Group organized by author Aaron Schneider where folks interested in London arts and writing gathered to answer the famed question, “Why on earth would you practice art in London, Ontario?”
Proof of our attendance can be seen in the BANNER IMAGE of the FCG’s Facebook page where Jason looks like he’s finally fulfilled his desire of looking like a bemused but rumpled OLD MAN. As both of us live AND make art in London we were happy to attend. It is an eternal mystery–all mysteries should be eternal–WHY anyone would make art in London, and although the Great Question was not answered that night (phew) it did provide an inspiration for lots of talk about how different folks overcome the challenge of writing, film-making, painting, music etc. in this dustiest of swampy towns. This event should be monthly so if you’re interested you should go. Check the FCG website for news.
That’s about it for now. We hope we see you at any of our stops over the next few days. We hope everything is good (or at least decent) where you are and that there are some or many New Arrivals on our list that tempt you.
Much love,
Jason and Vanessa
P.S. Not sure if we mentioned this before but local pick-ups are now on our bookmobile. Just drop us a line a day before you come to one of our stops and we will have your order ready. Local delivery is available too!
