Dear friends,
We are pleased to announce that Brown and Dickson continues its proud and heroic quest to disprove the exhausting and boring claim that “young people don’t read anymore.” Last week we pulled our bus onto the historic Huron campus to be swarmed by literate, curious students looking to buy books. It was overwhelming! For a fine three hours we became the social hub of campus, with sweet and smart kids phoning and texting each other to “meet at the blue bus.” They bought really, really smart books too. AND NO ONE ASKED US HOW WE MADE A LIVING AT IT!!! Hearts were filled. Piles were made. Lenore was gushed over. And we felt at home despite our age and feelings of deep uncoolness. We even sold that copy of Nietzsche that no downtownie had the guts to pull the trigger on.
Yay Huron!!!
We are returning again today from 1-3pm (weather depending). A whole WHACK of new arrivals are on the bus too (although we didn’t get a chance to process them on the site yet) so those kids are getting the primo deals. Might we worth a visit if you’re on campus (which many of you were, it turned out). However, if you don’t make it there, you might make it…
…to the Variety Cafe’s Spooky Market From 12pm on Saturday! We will be there from 10am, but from 12pm onward some cool vendors will be outside one of London’s best cafes to ring in the REAL reason for the season, pagan worship and Monsters! We’ll be hosting a drag storytime with Suga Cube at 12pm. Willow Switch’s Andra will be on hand to give tarot readings too. Ignore the Latest Righteous Moral Panic and support your book reading drag community! Frighten all of your pearl-clutching family members at once by having your fortune told with FACE CARDS!!! What else is Hallowe’en for than subversion of the World Proper? Our book bus will be there with candy and decorations until 5pm, so do come out and say BOO!
Cool new books. Young people reading. As above so below. What mirror dimension are we living in?!?
Hope to see you there.
Much love,
Jason and Vanessa
