Hello everyone,
We’re offering a truly splendid lot of books this week in our New Arrivals. Restaurant quality, as our eleven-year-old says about any home-made meal he deems superior. These are restaurant quality books to be sure. Edward Gorey, Folio Society, a Heavy Metal Magazine artist, a book about bubbles, and local true crime (among others) make an appearance. You could say these are Gift Book Quality too — ahem — as in, they’d be really good gifts to give to people during a yearly holiday season OR… this might be a great opportunity to damn all charity for the moment and grab restaurant quality books while they’re available. The folks you love can wait. They put up with you as it is and that buys some time. This is YOUR time. YOUR time to DINE, OR… buy it for “them” and read it yourself before you wrap it. We’ve all done it.
Having said that, we should let you know that the Bookmobile will be taking a much needed rest over the next while. This poor thing has been all over this region shepherding our little business through thick and thin. With this snowy advance on the way we’re going to switch to mail-order and local delivery. You may well see our Bookmobile on the road as deliveries need to be made, but a regular Bookmobile schedule is a challenge when the weather can change so suddenly.
So, we’re offering free local delivery on any order between now and Christmas! When you buy a book, local delivery is an option at checkout and we’ll get these pearly treasures out to you ASAP. Restaurant quality delivery here at Brown and Dickson.
What a year it has been. Baby born. Shop closed. Bookmobile built. Ontario bound. Books read. Enemies slain. Animals trained to talk. It’s been a praeclarum annum for your local used booksellers. Thank you so much for girding our spirits by reading such fascinating books and constantly reminding us that there are people like us out there who love weird, wild, and wonderful things. We could be slinging ratty Y2K techno-thrillers but no. You let us sell the good stuff. It’s a thrill when some rare counter cultural artifact is shipped from our quiet, local post office. Keep it up, reprobates! We love you all and are very grateful. Sell us your books. Buy the good stuff. It’s a re-use shop for smart people. Expect good things to come. And find charity in your heart, you hoarder of gifts, you beautiful monster.
Much love,
Jason and Vanessa

We had an incredible time this past weekend at our festive bookmobile stops. The photo above is from our afternoon at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village!
