This Email has been Far Too Pragmatic

We are putting this letter together on Election Day. Tomorrow, we may wake up in a very different province, or as students of history politics know, a province that is a new iteration of the same thing. We hope that you voted, and if you did not, we hope it was because of an interesting philosophical viewpoint, and not because of hopelessness or laziness. We are voting this evening. Perhaps we will see some of you there.

There are two big events happening this weekend that we want to tell you about! The first is a PARKING LOT SALE on Saturday from 12 – 8 pm. Behind our store will be tables set up with deals galore, not just of books, but of plants too! There will also be live music between 3 – 7 pm from the amazing bands Older Siblings and Sub Drop. Please come and say hello. We’re looking forward to a laid-back atmosphere, some good visiting, good tunes, and smiling faces.

For those of you willing to venture a little bit outside the city limits, we will be attending the Quiet Earth Book Festival on Sunday. This festival is a gathering of writers and musicians in a barn near Dorchester. You might have heard of Brent Jones and his Back to the Garden music festival that happens every year. It’s a picturesque setting in which to hear poetry and the beautiful sounds of artists who will be joining us. The event is free, but you are supposed to register. We will be vending books for the authors, and doing a short presentation on bookstores, community, and music.

This email has been far too pragmatic already, but we do want to remind you about Vanessa’s writing seminar. This intensive workshopping program will help you get your manuscript ready for publication — or at the very least, inspire you to write and share your work with other aspiring authors. The course consists of biweekly lectures, home work, peer review, and online interaction. It’s gonna be great, so make sure to join if you can. There are still a few spots available. Make this summer the one when you Make It Happen!

Events, events, events. We are very busy, but in good news, a friend is renting us her off-the-grid tiny house in Georgian Bay for a week this August. We’re going to spend hours in the Grieg’s Caves, dig our toes into the sand on the edge of Lake Huron, sleep late, read books, and stay far far far away from all things online. We’ll visit ice cream stands and markets and tell ghost stories around the fire. This is, our friends, just the break we needed. We’ll do our best to staff the shop, but we might just flip the sign and drive away with no regard for your book buying needs, our dear friends.

Please come and say hello this weekend, and do keep reading.
