Why Can’t We Write Anything as Good as the Shining?

We hope this finds you well.

An absolutely lovely philosophy collection has come into the shop recently. These are some smart books from a very smart person, and we are a little humbled by how smart they are. While cataloguing them, we opened their pages and are confused by them and partly frightened. Is this what REALLY smart people read? I mean, we get literature and poetry (they’re about girls right?) but these titles… We are honestly not being facetious here. This is some heady stuff. And this collector took VERY good care of their books. So forgive us for gushing.

Additionally, a great Popular Lit collection came in as well with all sorts of titles from Stephen King and J.R.R. Tolkien. TWO OTHER SMART PEOPLE SOLD US BOOKS!!! We;re nearly crying in our arms as we write this. Perhaps it’s just the gloomy, torrential weather London’s been experiencing lately that throw us into melancholic, insecure self-reflection. WHY CAN’T WE WRITE ANYTHING AS GOOD AS THE SHINING? And this Tolkien guy! Maps and annotations and multi-volume world-building histories? Are we supposed to feel this sad working with books?

Something that DOES make us happy are our new B&D Notebooks and Sketchbooks. This was 100% our idea and we’re positively beaming with joy. These note and sketchbooks are portable, bendy, staple-bound tomes of goodness. And they have hot lettering on the front to boot! The notebooks are lined and the sketchbooks are not so writers and artists take note. Like, take notes we mean. In our notebooks. They are deeply affordable.

As always, keep up the good fight, and don’t be a stranger. The world might get you down sometimes but fortunately the trail of amazing reads is windy and long and good for indoor kids like us.

All the best,
Jason and Vanessa
